My name is Derek Huff and I am the Managing Director and founder of Integrated Design Ltd. My background is in electronic engineering and I have been involved in the design and manufacture of electronic security products since leaving university almost 30 years ago.

IDL創業者で社長のDerek Huffと申します。私は30年程前に大学の電子工学科を卒業してから現在に至るまでセキュリティ製品の設計と製造に携わっています。

Integrated Design began as a business in 1985 with the aim of bringing the then emerging silicon technologies to security product applications. We now have a worldwide presence in the form of the Fastlane range of entrance control security products.

弊社はセキュリティ製品に当時盛んに使われだした半導体技術を応用することを目的に1985年に設立されました。現在では世界中にFastlaneブランドのエントランスコントロールセキュリティ製品を販売しています。

I am here today with Michel Bystram who is our Sales Director. He will tell you in more detail about specific Fastlane products and their applications. Before introducting him I would like to take a few moments to share with you why I think our products are special, and our company is special, and therefore what we have to offer is special.

本日は営業担当取締役のMichel Bystramと来日しています。Fastlane製品の詳細については彼から説明致しますが、その前に、私自身が、どうしてこの製品が特別で、弊社が特別で、ゆえに我々が提供しているものが特別であると考えているかを、お時間を少し頂いて説明したいと思います。

Our Heritage. Where we come from…

我々の原点と伝統

Integrated Design Ltd.- Design, ‘it’s in our name’. Our products are not subcontract designed or re-branded. Everything from the appearance of the product, the way it works, to the embedded code in the microprocessors is from a long-term in-house team working at our facility near London Heathrow. We have a passion for design, the ergonomics, the aesthetics, it keeps us awake at night, literally! We like to make the products we supply ourselves, for two reasons, firstly because it gives us the best control of quality, secondly because the process of manufacture feeds the process of design pro-actively.

IDLのIntegrated Design Ltdという社名の中に‘デザイン’という言葉が入っています。弊社製品の設計は一切外部委託したり、OEMによるものではありません。製品の外観・機能から半導体チップに埋め込むプログラムまでのすべては、ロンドンのヒースロー近くの弊社社屋の中で社員自身によって設計されています。我々は製品の設計、人間工学、美しい外観について情熱をもって取り組んでいます。その情熱は文字通り我々を一晩中眠らせません！我々は製品を次の二つの理由で作っています。一つ目は自分たち自身で設計作業を行なうことにより製品の品質をしっかり管理することが可能だからです。二つ目はものづくりを自分たちで行なうことによって、初めて先進的な設計プロセスを会得できるからです。

Our Ethos. What drivers us

我々のエトス。我々をうごかすもの。

We sometimes use the words ‘Ethos’ to describe what is at the heart of things. Companies are increasingly talking about Ethos and I think it is a good thing.

心にあるものやものごとの本質を表現するときによく‘エトス’という言葉を使います。最近、エトスについて話す企業が多くなり、私としてはそのことをうれしく思っています。

In English it is defined as follows;-

ethos

noun, the characteristic and distinguishing attitudes, habits, beliefs, etc. of an individual or of a group.

英語では以下のように定義されています；

ethos

名詞。個人やグループの、心構え、習慣、信念などの特性や特色のこと

Ethos is something which has always been important to Integrated Design Ltd. I hope it comes across in the way we do business with you our customer, in the way we treat our staff and our suppliers. What that means for the customer is continuity and commitment. We can offer this because our key people, our partners, staff and suppliers have been with us a long time, it means that ‘customer focus’ runs through the company. More than that, we have what I would call a ‘design ethos’, a way of thinking, an attitude and a respect for the design process. I hope that comes across in our products and in the slides you are about to see of some of our installations. We are concerned with how our product look in your reception, that its appearance is sympathetic with your corporate ethos. That the materials we use, the shapes, the colours, the lines are harmony with their surroundings.

エトスは弊社にとって常に重要なものであり続けてきました。この言葉が社員や協力会社に使っているのと同じようにお客様にも浸透することを願っています。お客様にとって意味するものは長いお付き合いと、その深さです。弊社の幹部社員、パートナー、スタッフ、協力会社の社員と長期にわたって付き合ってきたのでお客様とよいお付き合いができ、‘お客様中心’の考え方が社内で息づいていることを意味します。さらに私たちには‘デザインエトス’と呼んでいるものがあります。考え方、心構え、そして設計する過程に対するこだわりのことです。私は弊社の製品自身と、これからご覧いただく設置事例の写真に‘デザインエトス’がにじみ出ているといいと思っております。弊社の製品がお客様の会社のエントランスと受付の場でどのように見え、その存在がお客様のエトスに共鳴しているか、また、我々が選択する材料、形、色、ラインがエントランス環境といかに調和がとれているか、これらのことについて、弊社は強いこだわりを持っております。

The future. What we aspire to…

未来。我々が求めるもの。

Modern corporate access control has moves a long way in a relatively short time. I’m old enough to remember the advent of proximity cards in the form of the Schlage system, ground-breaking in its time, with the big passive reader and stiff cards. Look at where we are today! Today my daughter’s cat has an implanted prox chip in it’s neck which can report the cat’s temperature as well as it’s name!

現代の出入管理は比較的短期間で大きく変わってきています。私と同年代の皆様は、大きなパッシブリーダーや硬い非接触カードを使うSchlageシステムの到来を覚えていらっしゃると思います。当時としては画期的な技術でした。それが今ではどうでしょうか！娘が飼っている猫の首には非接触チップが埋め込まれていて、猫の名前と体温を送信してくれるのです！

I notice that;-

私が気付いたこと。

Access solutions are increasingly smart, I.P based, catV connected.

出入管理システムが、IPアドレスをもったりCAT5ケーブルでつながるなど、どんどん賢くなっていること。

Access control isn’t always an obvious, physical deterrent, it is often subtle, discrete.

出入管理システムとは、常にわかりやすくて物理的に抑止できるものではなく、むしろ理解しにくく千差万別なものであること。

For a modern corporate building it is decreasingly an option, increasingly a necessity.

最近のオフィスビルにとって、あればいいというものから、必要不可欠なものになってきていること。

So there is an increasing need for security, speed, and for technical advance, but at the same time there is an architectural need for the foyer product, the portal, the device which greets you the customer, your customer, the employee, the visitor, the director, the shareholder, to be as welcoming, benign, stylish, and/or subtle as possible, to look like it belongs.

つまり、安全性、スピード、技術進歩がますます求められていると同時に、建築設計上のニーズも満たすことが要求されるようになりました。お客様、社員、来訪者、役員、株主すべてをカスタマーとして優しく、スタイリッシュに、そして出来る限り始めからそこにあったかのように迎えるようなロビー、エントランス、機器のニーズです。

Why is this important to us? Because this is THE focus of our business. We are a Design and Technology company which chose very early on to focus innovation on corporate access portals. On smart, beautiful looking corporate access portals.

どうしてこのことが重要なのでしょうか？それは、まさに我々のビジネスそのものだからです。我々は企業の出入に関わる入口にイノベーションをもたらそうと創業段階から決めてきた設計会社であり、技術開発会社です。我々がこだわるのは、知的で美しい、企業のエントランスです。

I have massive respect for the Audi brand, so much so that my last 3 cars have been of that marquee. Whether you share my regard for Audi or not you will know that they make much of Design and Technology aspect of their motor cars, it’s what the brand says about itself and what dedicated Audi drivers say about the brand. It’s not just ‘how fast it goes’, not just ‘how much does it cost’, but there is a focus on ‘how well is it thought out’, ‘what does my choice of car say about me?’.

私は自動車のAudiブランドの崇拝者です。崇拝するあまり、Audiを3台乗り続けました。みなさんがAudiをどう思うかは別として、AudiブランドがAudiについて何を言おうとしているか、Audiを信奉するドライバーがAudiブランドについて何を言おうとしているかなど、Audiがデザイン的にも技術的にも優れた車をたくさん作っていることはご存知かと思います。それは、‘どれだけ速いか’ではなく、‘いくらかかるか’でもなく、‘どれだけ考え抜かれているか’‘その車を選ぶことで自分が何なのか’なのです。

‘can I tell that car is ‘designed’’. The answer to that with regard to my A4 is ‘yes’. Our aspiration is that customers will say that about our products too.

‘その車は‘デザイン’されたもの’かと聞かれれば、私のA4に関して言えば‘yes’と答えられます。我々の望みはお客様が弊社の製品に対しても同じように言っていただけることです。

Vorsprung Durch Technik! Is the AUDI marketing slogan. It means in English ‘progress through technology’. It’s what you do when you use a Fastlane.

‘Vorsprung Durch Technik!（フォルスプルング･ドゥルヒ･テクニーク）’これはAudiの販売スローガンです。英語では‘技術による前進’を意味します。Fastlaneをお使いになるお客様がされることです。
